Yes, you will need a farmhouse kitchen base cabinet or one made custom for the sink by using it as a template. Standard cabinets will not work (without a lot of modifications) as the front apron of traditional farmhouse sinks is 9 to 10" high. If retrofitting into an existing standard cabinet, changes will need to be evaluated and made by your installer. These changes may include reworking the face of the cabinet, cutting down the cabinet doors and refinishing them, and building out a support structure for the heavy farmhouse sink.
Check out our collection of retrofit farmhouse sinks that have a shorter apron and can be installed under-mount in standard kitchen cabinetry. You can also view this collection of top-mount or drop-in fireclay farmhouse sinks that can be installed in standard cabinetry.
